The best way to save money on credit cards is to make bigger minimum payments. But credit card companies refuse to tell us exactly how many years it will take off their cards and how much interest we will pay if we only make the requested minimum payments each month.

Senator Daniel Akaka (HI) has introduced the Credit Card Minimum Payment Warning Act (S. 393) to require credit card companies to disclose this information to consumers.

Please call your senators and urge them to co-sponsor S. 393. You can reach your senators at 202-224-3121. If you don't know who your senators are, that's OK. Just tell the operator your state, and they will connect you.

Here's a sample message you can leave: "Hello, my name is ____ and I live in _____. I'm calling to urge Sen. _____ to cosponsor S. 393 to help consumers lower excessive levels of credit card debt."

Then, please report your call below so we can keep track of how many are being made.
